What’s New in Chrome 2?

by joel8520 on June 1, 2009

On March 17 Google released the finished version of their eight month old web browser. This was a monumental achievement for Google considering the only other product they have out of beta right now is search. Even one of Google’s most used products, gmail, is still in beta although I am in no way putting down Google as I am an avid Googler and think all their products are just this side of perfect. What could make it a little sweeter? Add a version for linux and mac. I want Chrome in Ubuntu!

Whats New?

Although Google claims its browser is 35% faster at rendering JavaScript than any other browser out there Google says it has managed to pack even more speed into its roadster crediting a web kit update and improvements made to own java engine dubbed V8.

The New Chrome is supposedly much more stable than before as well. With over 300 bug fixes in the new version and the more powerful java engine chrome can now handle even the most demanding sites with ease.

Along with the standard updates to speed and stability that all browsers promise with updates chrome has added some new features, some original and others simply playing catch-up with the other major browsers. Chrome now has an auto fill and a full screen mode. It’s somewhat funny that a browser made to get then most net and least chrome (that’s what all the tool bars and stuff are called) did not already have a mode that would remove all of the chrome from the screen. That new update will be great for giving online presentations or showing a video on the web.

If you have been using Chrome from its first release or have used Google Toolbar on whatever your favorite browser may be you are used to seeing you top nine most visited sites thumb nails whenever you start your browser or open a new tab. The feature over all is a good one for getting to where you would like to go quickly but for some users there is the issue of there being some sites in that list that they are not so proud of and don’t want their passing office coworkers to know about like microwavingpuppies.com. Not something you want your mama to know about.
